ALTOUR Japan Overall Update

2021.04.17
Current the top travel destinations in the US are Hawaii, Florida, California, Colorado, Alaska and New York.
What are your travel plans for this summer? Here is the overview of what's going on in travel these days.

The eye-opening news announced by CDC on April 2nd was that fully vaccinated individuals will no longer need to undergo Covid-19 testing or self-quarantine unless required by the destination.
Also, New York State lifted the travel restrictions on April 1. This is also a big silver lining.
In other big news, Delta Air Lines announced that starting May 1, they will no longer block the middle seat to maintain social distance. Delta was the last airline to offer middle seat blocking policy, but all seats will be sold on all flights going forward. In addition, the in-flight service, which was limited to snack bags and water, is returning to its traditional service, and also airport lounges are beginning to reopen.
In addition to that, the number of passengers passing through TSA security checkpoints in the U.S. has been steadily increasing in recent days, and happily, since March 11, the number of passengers per day has not fallen below 1 million anymore, reaching around 1.5 million on some days, that's more than 70% of the 2019 level.
As a result, airlines are adding more flights, especially on resort and leisure routes, but there are many routes where the balance between supply and demand has not kept up, and many flights are sold out.
In addition, traveling by car used to be an inexpensive option, but last year's decline in demand has forced rental car companies to sell many of their cars, and they do not have enough cars in stock to meet the current increase in demand, resulting in higher prices. If you are planning to travel by car, we recommend that you plan ahead.

As these, travel itself, especially leisure travel, is showing a strong recovery. However on the other hand, corporate business travel is expected to take longer to recover due to increased corporate responsibility and duty of care more than ever. In order to keep up with the ever-changing travel restrictions and crisis management, Altour is focusing on the new theme of "risk management", and for the first time in the history of TMC, Altour has appointed a professional Chief Security & Risk Officer who is well versed in the industry and the latest trends.
As part of this effort, we are offering "Guardian Care" (a comprehensive risk management plan) to provide travelers with peace of mind. Flyer link is here-, please feel free to contact us for more information.

Lastly we can't forget about international! There is still very low demand for international travel due to the strict travel regulations in many countries. Under these circumstances, less than 20% of Americans want to travel abroad within the next six months. So it will take a long time to recover.

As everyone searches for new ways to travel in the new Covid-19 era, a variety of initiatives are being undertaken. One of the most interesting is the "health certificate apps" such as CommonPass, VeriFLY, and IATA Travel Pass.
These apps are being developed not only to help check travel restrictions, but also to facilitate travel by creating digital passports and sharing negative results and vaccinations.
Until the world settles down, health certificate apps may become a travel must-have-item in addition to passports in the near future.

Another interesting measures would be Quarantine free flights, Cruises limited for vaccinated passengers only, as well as opening border to vaccinated people in Iceland.
Some of these initiatives may work, some may not, but I think we will have to build new ways to travel in the Covid-19 era through trial and error.
I hope to bring you more positive news in the next issue. Stay safe, and stay healthy!
